Carbon Fibre Cable
Alternatives to steel

Carbon fibre non metallic cable has great strength and is 4 to 5 times stronger than steel. However, carbon fibre is only 20% of the weight of steel. Thus significant structural, efficiency and safety improvements can be made when using carbon fibre as an alternative to steel.

As deep sea exploration reaches new depths in the search for oil steel tethers are reaching a limit because the cables have to be strong enough simply to hold their own weight. Carbon fibre tethers allow cables to penetrate further into deep sea environments. In addition transportation and handling of the cables is easier resulting in efficiency savings.

Due to the corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance of carbon fibre it can be used in very harsh environments where steel would deteroriate quickly. Alternative carbon fibre products can be used to replace steel in applications where the steel may chemically react.
